Stupid Poker Moves that Pay off
03/04/2010
Sometimes at the poker table, when things aren’t going your way and it seems like nothing you do is working, you get desperate and make some stupid move. And occasionally, miraculously, that move pays off. I was playing recently, at a famous, well-known casino online on the east coast of the United States. It was one of the worst online poker sessions I can remember having. It started off okay, I won two pots with timely bluffs, but after that everything went downhill. None of my bluffs were working; I tried playing good hands, bad hands, raising our of position to confuse people, anything really, and it wasn’t working. It was quite frustrating. So, at one point I decided I wasn’t going to see my chips stack whittled away slowly, I and was just going to go for it. I decided that the next person who raised, I was going to re raise them all in without even looking at my hand. I know, it sounds incredibly dumb, and it probably is. But at the time I was thinking, you know what nothing else is working so I might as well go for blind luck. So the next hand someone raised in front of me, and I reraised all in. I turned over my cards and was dismayed to see a 2-8. Oh well, I thought, today isn’t my day. To make matters worse, my opponent, who called for some reason, had a 10-8! Why would he call my reraise with a 10-8?? Well, it didn’t matter, he did. Anyway, all of us at the table had a big chuckles when the flop came 8-2-J. The turn and river were blanks and my ridiculous hand had held up. Like I always say, it’s better to be lucky than good.
