What is Tea Tree Oil? Benefits?

07/31/2008

Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) has a proven history of over sixty years of safe usage. Some call it the medecine cabinet in a bottle!

Tea Tree 100% Pure Essential Oil!

It’s o.k. to apply this oil neat the same goes for lavender but I recommend if you have sensitive/reactive skin to always dilute them in a base product, either being oil or creams or apply on a q-tip to limit overuse.
It is steam distilled from the leaves of the tea tree species (Melaleuca alternifolia). The highest quality of tea tree oil comes from Australia.
Tea tree oil has been proven to be a powerful yet natural antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal medicine (essential oil).

It is being used as a very effective first aid remedy and against countless skin ailments, infections, cuts, scrapes, burns, insect bites and skin spots etc,

*Tea Tree Oil is a natural antiseptic, germicide, antibacterial, fungicide.

Tea tree oil is effective against nail fungus (click link below for more info.), ringworm, athlete’s foot, dandruff, acne, blackheads and many types of infestations including lice, mites, scabies and mosquitoes etc…

Tea tree oil is not just soothing and disinfecting, it is capable of penetrating into the lower skin layers with its anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, pain-killing and wound-healing qualities.

It promotes sweating – which enhances the body’s own natural preventative response when threatened by infection. Great for colds alone or in combination with eucalyptus oil. Add to an oil or cream and massage on chest alone or chest and back. Add about 1-2 drop of each.
Tea tree oil exhibits expectorant and balsamic characteristics, which are especially beneficial in the case of throat or chest infections, having a generally soothing and clearing (mucus-expelling) effect on the entire respiratory tract. It is also effective against head colds.

It can be used as a immune system booster and a preventative against many types of infections.

Tea tree and Lavender may be helpful in efforts to renew a weakened immune system and/or to provide immune support during colds, flu, etc. Along with eucalyptus essential oil which acts as an expectorant by helping to clear mucous out of lungs. Helps to soothe inflammation of the respiratory tract. Helps with asthma, bronchitis, coughs, sinusitis, throat infections you may use eucalyptus in a diffuser or vaporizer to help relieve congestion.

Abrasions & Minor Cuts: Clean area well! Apply tea tree oil full strength to area.

Acne: Add 1-2 drops on a q-tip of tea tree oil and apply directly onto infected area once – twice a day until gone or add a few drops of tea tree oil to facial wash or cream, apply daily. Facial Mask add 2-4 drops to clay type mask.

After Shave Or Waxing: Add 1-2 drops of tea tree oil onto razor blade before shaving. Add A FEW DROPS of tea tree oil to 1 Tbs of aloe vera gel. Smooth over area.

Athletes Foot: Clean feet thoroughly, especially between toes. Add doluted tea tree oil directly to feet every week. Or add (6) drops of tea tree oil to ounce of olive oil. Massage on feet and between toes.

Put a tissue with pure oil drops on it into your vacuum cleanser bag to freshen your rooms and kill dust mites as you vacuum such as tea tree, lavender, lemon, peppermint, lemongrass, cypress, Eucalyptus, Citronella, effectively repel many types of insects including mites, lice, and fleas. Peppermint placed on entry ways prevents ants from entering.

Household ants and others pests hate tea tree oil, so a few drops put at the point of entry will deter them. Similarly, when you wipe cupboards out with an oil and water solution, you will find that cockroaches will move out!

Cold Sores: Tea tree oil can reduce the painful healing time by as much as one half. Apply a few drops of tea tree oil directly to the infected area with cotton swab 2 times a day, to help prevent breakouts apply directly upon onset.

Mosquito Bites: Add (1-2) drops of tea tree oil directly to area of bite. Repeat every 2 hours or until swelling and itching disappears.

Mouth Ulcers: Dab ulcer with undiluted tea tree oil every two hours.

Muscle Aches: Add (12) drops of tea tree oil to 1 ounce of grapeseed oil. Massage well. You can also add (see dilution table) drops to bath water and soak.

Plantar Warts: Apply tea tree oil full strength to affected area 1-2 times daily until gone also a good idea to cover up with a bandage.

Toothbrush Cleaner: Apply tea tree oil directly to tooth 1-2 times a week to remove bacteria.

I recommend buying lavender oil or any essential oils from a reputable distributor, from your esthetician if available because many are of poor quality thus you won’t get the full benefit of the product!

10 Ingredients in Weight Loss Pills

Looking for help with losing weight? Help that goes beyond the usual lifestyle changes, portion control advice and exercise routines? Weight-loss supplements touting names like “fat burner” and “thermo max” can be enticing. But do they work? And even more important, in the wake of the Food and Drug Administration’s recent ban on ephedra, are they safe?

In this article, Environmental Nutrition provides a snapshot of 10 of the most popular ingredients currently in supplements for weight loss.

Chitosan
Made from the shells of lobsters, shrimp and other shellfish, chitosan is an indigestible fiber. It is supposed to help weight loss by binding with the fat you eat, blocking its absorption. However, studies do not support this claim. Side effects include constipation and gas. People with shellfish allergies should beware.

Chromium
Most often present as chromium picolinate, it has been promoted to boost lean mass and decrease body fat. Though study findings have been inconclusive, an analysis of several studies recently concluded that supplementing with 200 to 400 micrograms of chromium picolinate could result in about a 2.5-pound weight loss per week in some people. Other studies have found a loss of body fat and an increase in muscle tissue, with no change in weight. Still others have found no effect at all. Though some laboratory studies have raised safety issues, a large number of human studies suggest it is safe.

Citrus Aurantium (Bitter Orange)
This herbal extract is a natural source of synephrine (a compound similar to ephedrine) and the supplement industry’s current answer to the ephedra ban. But there are no published studies to show it is an effective supplement for weight loss. And like ephedra, its side effects include an increase in blood pressure; Environmental Nutrition recommends avoiding it.

Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
Both animal and human research hints at a possible role for CLA in reducing body fat and increasing lean body mass, but it’s not quite ready for prime time. None of the human studies have been long-term. CLA is currently being studied in combination with chromium picolinate. CLA is found naturally in dairy foods and beef and is generally considered safe.

Garcinia Cambogia
The extract from Garcinia cambogia fruit rind contains hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which supposedly curbs food intake, weight gain and storage of excess calories as fat. However, studies have failed to prove G. cambogia is an effective weight-loss aid. The most common side effects are upper respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms.

Guarana
Caffeine is the effective ingredient in guarana plant seeds. Guarana may have a mild appetite suppressant effect over the short term. It was often used in combination with ephedra until ephedra was banned. The potential side effects are those of caffeine overdoseinsomnia, restlessness, anxiety or panic.

Hydroxymethylbutyrate (HMB)
HMB is a natural byproduct of the breakdown of the amino acid leucine. HMB supplements are used by body builders in hopes of increasing muscle mass. A few small studies have suggested that HMB increases lean mass and decreases body fat when combined with weight training. However, studies with overweight and obese people are needed.

Plantago Psyllium
Psyllium is a water-soluble fiber from Plantago ovato seeds. Taken before a meal, it may make you feel full, causing you to eat less. While it is proved to aid constipation (that’s how Metamucil works), it has not been proved as an effective weight-loss aid.

Pyruvate
Pyruvate formulas boast that they stimulate metabolism and reduce body fat. Pyruvate is found naturally in food and in the body as a result of the breakdown of carbohydrates and protein. Some studies have shown a weight-loss benefit with pyruvate supplements. But the people in the studies also exercised and cut back on calories. Moreover, the dosage used in the studies was high, requiring a handful of tablets each day. Experts say the case for pyruvate to aid weight loss is weak.

Yerba mate
Brewed into a tea, bitter Yerba mate is high in caffeine. Used in combination with other caffeine-containing herbs, like guarana and damiana, it was found in one study to delay stomach emptying time and aid weight loss. The study was short (45 days), so conclusions on keeping the weight off cannot be made.

The Bottom Line

Though all are relatively expensive and none are proved, of these top popular weight-loss contenders, chromium picolinate and CLA are probably the most studied. If you’ve already made up your mind to go the supplement route, you might want to give them a try. Just don’t expect miracles and check with your doctor first.

Safe Dog Toys

07/30/2008

Dog owners love to think of their dogs as children. “That’s my baby,” they’ll say when referring to their dogs. They’ll refer to themselves as “Mommy” or “Daddy” when talking to their dogs as well. And, of course, they buy their dogs toys to play with. Choosing the right dog toys can be tricky. People like to get cute, squeaky toys for their dogs or give them stuffed animals to chew on and carry around (the stuffed toy becomes the dog’s “baby” quite often – “Get your baby, checkers! Checkers, where’s your baby?”) because they think it’s “adorable.” Dog toys don’t need to be “cute.” They need to be practical, fun for the dog, durable, and safe.

Avoid Non-Toy “Toys”

For as lovable, loyal, friendly, and playful as they are, dogs are not the brightest creatures. They are naturally attracted to things that can cause them the most harm. It’s important to start early with your dog, providing save toys to chew and play with while teaching the animal to avoid household items it may wish to use as toys. Dogs love to chew on pantyhose, for example, but these could easily be partially ingested, choking the dog. Some dogs will chew on power cords, risking a harmful (or fatal) electric shock. Teach your dog early on what things are for chewing and playing and what things are off limits.

The Best, Safest Dog Toys

The size of a toy is an important consideration. Kongs, balls, and other typical toys must be small enough that the dog can chew them and carry them, but not so small that they can become lodged in the dog’s mouth or throat.

Durability is a factor, especially for a dog that loves to chew. A toy that will break apart easily can become a hazard as the small, sharp parts can be swallowed, caught in the throat, or cut the mouth and gums. Again, a hard rubber Kong (easily one of the best dog toys ever conceived) is an excellent choice.

Softer toys, like the popular “squeak” toys made of thin plastic and full of air are good for dogs that are a bit gentler. They’re unlikely to chew through such items and are usually attracted by the squeaking sound.

Tennis balls are great for some dogs, but poor choices for others. This is a question of size ratios. If the dog is too small to fit a tennis ball all the way in its mouth, then it can be an excellent toy that the dog will love but costs very little. If the ball can fit all the way in the dog’s maw, however, it becomes a choking hazard.

The Ten Second Business Plan

07/25/2008

Quite a few years ago I needed a used pickup truck . . . well, I wanted one anyway. The need wasn’t urgent and I wasn’t searching daily for one, but periodically I would drive past the used car lots and see what was available. Then I found one. It was a few years old, in good condition, and the price was right.

Now, finding a truck and buying a truck are two different things. I knew I could buy the truck, but I what I really needed was to justify the purchase to myself and my to wife. I thought about it. Within ten seconds I came up with a business and marketing plan . . . for my wife.

My wife had just quit a job that she liked, but where she was vastly underpaid. She was looking for another job. She had a friend in similar circumstances: both young housewives and mothers looking for spending cash. I bought the truck and drove home. As I was driving I tweaked the plan a little bit and prepared my presentation.

I walked into the house and told me wife, “I’ve got a business for you.” She just looked at me. I said, “You know how hard it is to find people to clean out stuff left behind in our home rentals?” She nodded. “Well,” I said, “You can form your own business to remove trash and help people get debris out of their yards. You can go partners with your friend. All you need is a truck, and I’ll buy that. You pay for the gas, any dump fees (which you can charge to the client), and the advertising in the community classified newspapers. You can name your company Lump It and Dump It. Your slogan can be You Call, We Haul. And you two can probably split $25.00 to $30.00 an hour (you can see this was quite a few years ago). It’ll give you some exercise, some money AND you can almost choose your hours.

My wife recognized the opportunity and immediately called her friend, who accepted the proposal. We went and picked up the truck.

They placed ads in the small local papers and began making money almost from day one. Eventually, competition did them in, but for over a year they had a business that made them spending cash. My wife made more than twice what she had been getting, and her friend made much more than she had been receiving for baby-sitting, her previous money source.

Now, your business is probably more complicated than Lump It and Dump It, and it’s going to take more than ten seconds to make out your complete business and marketing plan, but if you can’t write down your core information in a little over ten seconds you have a problem.

There are basically four major aspects of the ten-second business and marketing plan:

1) What product or service you are offering?
2) How it is going to help people?

3) What are you going to call your business?
4) How are you are going to reach your customers?

After you’ve got those four questions answered, you can branch out to more heavy duty planning, but if you can’t answer those questions quickly and explain them to anyone with seconds, you better take more time and examine your business so you can do it.

The Fail-Safe Weight Loss Formula

07/24/2008

Yes Virginia, the fail-safe weight loss formula exists.

It’s so simple, we overlook it. Instead, we focus on the latest fad diet or the newest exercise video.

The fail-safe weight loss formula appears in an audio program authored by the self-help guru Brian Tracey. Here’s his version of this formula . . .
Eat LESS, Exercise MORE.

Guaranteed Every Time

Disappointed? After all, we are very familiar with this message. But, if we pay attention to our daily habits, this formula will work EVERY TIME. Guaranteed.

How can this formula succeed 100% of the time? It’s simple math. And math always works. ALWAYS.

Okay, so you have a trust issue when it comes to weight loss. Let’s PROVE that it works.

It’s a Numbers Game

Suppose you’ve been gaining about 10 pounds a year for the past 3 years. If your daily caloric requirement is 2000, you have been on average 100 calories over your requirement every day for the past 3 years.

If your goal is to simply reverse the 30-pound weight gain, you need to reduce your daily caloric intake by 200 calories.

Do ONE of the following:

1. Eat 200 calories LESS a day.

2. Burn 200 calories MORE a day.

3. Combine eating less and increasing your activity level for a total of 200 calories, for example, eat 100 less and burn 100 more.

Gradually Lose Those Extra Pounds

You could lose the 30 pounds by changing a few habits. First, eat half the usual muffin a day. Then, climb the stairs in your apartment building every day instead of pushing elevator buttons.

The next month, you could lose the entire muffin and park your car a little further away from the building where you work as well as climbing the stairs.

Over time, you will lose the weight. You have to. It’s in the numbers. And you haven’t starved yourself or gotten into the dreaded “I have to go to the health club” routine.

5 Steps to Weight Loss

If your eyes glaze over when you read numbers, here’s the easy part: all the information you need is online at www.caloriecontrol.org

The steps are as follows:

1. Decide how many pounds you want to lose. EXAMPLE: 20 pounds

2. Decide how long in days you want it to take. Be realistic about the length of time. EXAMPLE: 365 days

3. Multiply the pounds identified in number 1 by 3500.
EXAMPLE: 20 pounds X 3500 = 70,000 calories

4. Divide the result in step 3 by the number of days to get the number of daily calories. EXAMPLE: 70,000 calories divided by 365 days = 192 calories per day.

5. Decide if you will eat less, increase your activity level, or both to get to the number in step 4. Use the web site calorie and exercise calculator (www.caloriecontrol.org) to figure out how you can eat less and exercise more.

So, are you going to be fat forever? Or will you use the fail-safe formula: Eat LESS, Exercise MORE.

ALWAYS REMEMBER (and NEVER forget) – Take it one day at a time.

Discover About the Life and Times of the Royal Family

Public Devotion and Image

Members of the Royal Family take part in several hundreds of private ceremonies ever year, across England as properly documented in the Court Circular, to credit, encourage and be taught about the achievements or events of people institutions and businesses in a mixture of sectors of life. As representatives of the Queen, they continually unite with the public in observing historical times, holidays, celebratory & heartbreaking episodes & frequently also sponsors or joins in certain charitable, cultural & communal activities.

Their trips overseas on behalf of the U.K. (called State Appointments when the sovereign legitimately visits other heads of state) draws public interest to good dealing within and between the Commonwealth and other nations, to British cargo and trade, & to Britain as a historical, vacation, and tourist location. Their present jobs and time-honoured jobs makes up the height of a contemporary “royal court,” & provide a clearly British and historical vision to royal services (e.g. Trooping the Colour) & outlook to public occasions (Like that of the Summer Parties, Ascot).

Right through their lives they draw immense journalist attention in the shape of photographic, printed & radio commentary on the subject of their daily lives, family associations, rites of passage, characters, costumes, conducts, and public assignments.

Royal Finances

Funds that help the British Queen in the workings of her duties as the ruler of state of the United Kingdom comes from the Civil List. This is a return of a small share of the profits from the Crown Lands that are supplied by the Queen to parliament at the foundation of each reign; all Crown Land being overseen by The Crown Estates, an institution that is solely liable to parliament. In the two thousand and three-four economical year, the sum provided was one hundred and seventy six million pounds, where the Head of State’s costs was ?36 million. The Queen’s expenditure doesn’t include the charge of bodyguards. If you are travelling to England then why not find out more about the Royal Family History at enjoyEngland.com today.

The Birds You Might See In Arkansas

07/23/2008

The birds listed here are the most common ones you MIGHT find in Arkansas throughout the entire year. I’ve seen hundreds of brown pelicans here plumped down in one spot, but you aren’t likely to see brown pelicans here because that was a one day event and they were gone when I came back in less than an hour. I don’t know how they got here and I don’t know why they came.

The list is in alphabetical order instead of being arranged by groups. Remember that birds vary by habitat. For example: Ducks will always be found near water. The more water there is, the more ducks there might be. Geese prefer to graze AND have water nearby. They are more likely to be found in open fields, preferably GRAIN fields. In Arkansas you never really know what kind of habitat you’ll see in the next ten miles. Will it be wetland, open field, plain, hill, mountain, valley, stream, river, pond, lake or meadow. That’s good. You won’t get bored in Arkansas.

Dollar Saving Tips on your Next Car Rental

07/22/2008

One of the biggest vacation expenses is a rental car. Below are a few suggestions on how you can save money on your next rental car.

If you are flying to your vacation destination and have booked the flight either online or through a travel agency, you can more than likely get a discount on your rental car if you book it as part of the package. The majority of car rental companies collaborate with at least one airline to provide frequent flyer miles or other types of rewards when you rent a car. In addition, many airlines offer incentive and bonus programs where you get extra miles or extra credit, so be sure to inquire about these programs when making your reservation.

When choosing your rental car, a compact or subcompact economy car is usually less expensive than a full size sedan or minivan. Therefore, selecting an economy will not only be less expensive, but you will also get better gas mileage thus saving on gas expenses.

If you need a large sedan, SUV or minivan for the comfort of your family, it is well worth your time to shop around. There is usually a high demand for these types of vehicles and therefore a larger price tag. Travel related web sites are a good place to start your research to familiarize yourself with the average price in your vacation area.

The duration of the rental will have an influence on the cost as well. Weekly rentals are usually far less costly than a daily rate spread over a week. Therefore, if your vacation plans are for a week or more, be sure to inquire about special rates. If you are taking a weekend vacation, many companies offer weekend specials on certain makes and models of their cars.

In addition, a number of national car companies and local smaller companies rent their used cars for much less than a new car from a rental agency. In most instances, these cars are only a few years old and provide the same protection as a new car.

For the business traveler, joining a frequent renter club, or using the same rental car company each time, is a great way to get some special coupons and some very good deals that you could use for the family vacation.

Most people purchase car insurance from the rental agency. Usually, this is not necessary. If you have purchased your rental car on your credit car, you may already have coverage as part of your credit card plan. In addition, as an automobile owner, you car insurance may provide coverage for rental cars. Therefore, it is necessary for you to check your credit card plan and automobile insurance, if you are covered, then purchasing insurance from the rental car agency is not necessary.
